The Shanghai quality control R&D department was established in May 2014. It is located in Zhangjiang hi-tech park, China (Shanghai), trial free trade zone, biomedical base 1011, on 4th floor, Haxue road. It is a very important department on which the Shanghai clinical laboratory center relies a lot. Formerly known as Shanghai clinical science and technology laboratory (Taian road No. 120, No. 3), following the Shanghai municipal government’s reforms in 2004, the department was moved to Pudong new area Zhangjiang hi-tech park, and is considered to be China's earliest unit for quality control and in vitro diagnostic reagents development.

The R&D quality control unit currently employs 13 people. Their mainly focus is the research and development the equipment for medical quality control testing, including clinical chemistry, clinical hematology, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology, transformation, preparation and sale of five major professional quality control substances, urine chemical quality control, blood lipid control, conventional hemagglutination control, special protein control, microbial control products, molecular biology control, free fatty acids, cystatin C, homocysteine amino acids, glycosylated hemoglobin, glycated serum albumin and other types of quality controls. As well as daily quality controls, quality supervision and assurance that the  product can be used in clinical tests. The department plays an important role in the quality control and building of discipline in medical examination.

The department continues to improve the RMP (standard material producer) quality management system, the laboratory management system, relying on the Shanghai free trade zone in Zhangjiang hi-tech park to create a scientific and technological innovation center, following the path towards product research and development in order to contribute to the medical inspection field.
